An overview of the trek:

Before we map you a perfect plan for this beautiful trek, there are a few things that you should be aware of. This trek will be divided into three main parts which are Aru to Lidderwat followed by Lidderwat to Shekwas and ending with Shekwas to your destination Tarsar. For this, you will have to cover a total distance of about 20-22 km. the ascend will be to the height of 12500 ft and will mostly not be steep. You will get to encounter various pristine rivers with enchanting flora being surrounded by colossal mountains. It is often considered the best alternative for the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, making it one of the most popular treks in the paradise of earth. In order to explore and enjoy this trek to its fullest, you would be required to spend about 5-6 days at the least.

A short itinerary to help you plan your trek:

On day 1 of your trip, you will be travelling from Srinagar to Aru (the base camp) which is at an altitude of 8040 ft. The total travel distance for this journey is about 105 km which would require you about 4-5 hrs. once arrived, have a peaceful overnight stay at Aru.

On day 2 of the trip, you will begin your trek to Lidderwat which is at an altitude of 9025 ft. you would be covering a distance of 10 km requiring almost 6 hr. But don’t you worry, the beautiful forest of fir and the stunning meadows will have you so enchanted that you won’t even feel any exhaustion.

On day 3, trek from Lidderwat to Shekwas by covering a distance of 6 km in about 5-6 hrs. this trail will take you to the height of 11160 ft through the expansive grasslands and snow-fed mountains creating misty valleys. Beautiful, right?

On day 4, you would reach the most awaited Tarsar lake at an altitude of about 12470 ft by trekking a distance of 5 km. Camping here would be an experience that you are going to treasure for a lifetime!

On day 5, you will ascend further to the height of 12960 ft to Sundarsar by covering a distance of 6 km requiring 5-6 hrs. The trail is beautifully adorned with streams, and valleys ending with camping grounds to give you a magical camping experience.

Day 6 is your last day before you head back to Srinagar from where you can further plan your journey back to your home city. On this last day, you will be trekking to the last of the three lakes, Marsar Lake. This trek is about 9 km long and would require 7 hours to complete. At the height of 13200 ft, the serenity of this lake and its surroundings will put your mind and soul at peace. In the end, you are going to cherish each and every moment spent on this vacation, returning with a smile on your face and lots of happy memories on your mind!

How to reach Tarsar Marsar?

By road: deciding to take the roadway as your mode of transport might be a bit tiring but there is no doubt that you would enjoy the scenic view of your journey. If you are coming from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh then it’s best to take the road to Srinagar which is well connected to most of the cities of the country. Upon reaching Srinagar, you can easily take a cab to your beautiful destination, Aru.

By air: to undertake the Tarsar Marar Trek you have to reach Aru which is the base camp for this trek. The closest airport to Aru is in Srinagar which is well connected to the major cities like Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi

By rail: the nearest and the most convenient railway station for Srinagar is the Jammu Tawi Railway station from where you can avail of the bus or cab facility to reach Aru.
