Many people try to find the easiest or fastest way to clean their couch, but this is not the best way. It’s simple: some benches are easy to clean, others require more effort. And different carpets need to be treated differently. So the right question is, “How do I clean my sofa most effectively?”

Check what material your sofa is made of

First, DO NOT try to clean your sofa without knowing what fabric or fiber mix you are dealing with. The upholstery is easy to damage without safety. The best thing you can do is look for a cleaning code. You can find this on a sticker that is pasted on the frame under your sofa cushions. Manufacturers are not required by law to install such code on their devices, so yours may not have it.

If so, read it carefully. Somewhere under the sticker is one of four codes:

It means wet or water. You can safely hydrate.

It means only solvent. Dry clean only, NO WATER!

This means dry foam. Safer than S, but still better not to risk and go to the dry cleaners.

It just means a vacuum cleaner. Do not try to wash it yourself. This is a very rare code

If there is no code sticker, it is best left to a professional to determine the most appropriate cleaning method. Cleaning upholstered furniture is a difficult job. There is no universal way to clean all types of furniture. The ingredients determine which treatment works best and how well it Rengøring Erhverv a particular spot or stain. Remember that blemish-free doesn’t always mean looking good after the procedure. Before cleaning begins, explain to the technician what your actual visual expectations are. Ask for a test site, they should do it for free. If you are not satisfied with the result, do not waste money and refuse the procedure. Unfortunately, the reality is that some materials cannot be fully cleaned after a certain period of use.

    Clean your sofa yourself

Assuming you can’t see the code; feel the fabric with your hand. If it’s smooth, almost smooth, dry cleaning is safest. These fabrics are often more decorative and have a somewhat shiny appearance. If the upholstery feels rougher or more luxurious (such as car upholstery), steam cleaning is a good option. When in doubt, test an inconspicuous area with a few drops of water. Most dry cleans do not absorb liquids and repel or seep out. Water treatment of chemically cleaned coatings can discolor or bleed, causing shrinkage,

or water spots (yellow or brown circles, such as when a child wets the bed. Most liquid circles are called water spots). Once they appear, water spots are usually permanent. There is another great way to check the upholstery. If the cloth previously had water stains, the cloth has probably been dry-cleaned. DO NOT USE THE MOISTURE METHOD. Some coatings can develop water spots within minutes or even hours. If you think that your sofa cover is of the dry clean type, it is not recommended that you try anything on your own. Normally dry cleaning cloths are only good for removing ground dirt. It is not very effective for old stains and really visible difference. Dry cleaning does not absorb water and is therefore not easy to clean with moisture. With fabrics like these, your options are limited.

If you can determine whether your sofa is suitable for steam cleaning, you’re in luck.

You can rent one or use your own portable steam cleaner, but professional equipment will do the job better. It is best to use about 300 psi, but no more than 400 psi. Smaller portable bar cleaners can go up to about 100 psi. Do not use a lot of detergent. If the tea is foam or soap based, the tea will leave an unwanted residue or film.
